Amazon India has selected Bengaluru to begin it’s a venture in food delivery and is currently operational in four areas of the city namely Bellandur, Haralur, Marathalli and Whitefield.

An Amazon spokesperson reported this has been done on the request of its customers keeping in concern the current circumstances when people are being encouraged to stay inside the home to be safe. Also, local businesses need assistance to sell their products. Thus they have decided to deliver prepared meals from some local restaurants and cloud kitchens that maintain high hygienic conditions for its customers.

Amazon is looking forward to “contactless delivery” from the restaurants in the close proximity of the users.

The e-commerce companies came to a standstill with only essentials being sold since the nationwide lockdown has been put into effect since March 25 due to the COVID-19 outbreak across the country. This led to the launching of other services in their apps especially, delivering groceries and other necessaries from the local shops to people’s doorstep.

The Central Government has provided relaxations in the fourth phase of the lockdown, starting from May 18 and wholesalers have been allowed to supply non- essential items in the red zones as well.
