At over 1,300 pages, Vikram Seth’s 1993 book, A Suitable Boy, is one of the longest novels to be published in a single volume. Now, the epic about Indian life has been adapted for television.

Set in post-Partition North India in 1951, the A Suitable Boy television show closely follows the novel’s plotline; Seth even served as a producer on the BBC series. The story follows a young university student, Lata Mehra, played by Tanya Maniktala, trying to carve out her own identity, while her mother becomes obsessed with finding her a husband. Lata becomes torn between three possible suitors, all with their own strengths and weaknesses.
