The new trailer for the latest instalment in the 20-year-old film franchise, which debuted just over a year after the original release date, showcases even more wild vehicular shenanigans deployed by Vin Diesel’s Dom, Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty, and the rest of the “Fast & Furious” family. (It’s embedded below.)
The trailer features an extended sequence involving a car equipped with a massive magnet capable of lifting a car off the road. We get a few more tidbits about Dom’s tumultuous relationship with his brother Jakob (John Cena), who appears to have teamed up with Charlize Theron’s Cipher, the villain from 2017’s X-Men: First Class.
There are a few more shots of Sung Kang’s Han in “The Fate of the Furious,” but no hints as to how the fan favourite character has returned from the dead. Oh, and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej (Ludacris) appear to be blasting off into space. It’s all part of what director Justin Lin refers to as “the final chapter” of the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
Lin stepped away from the franchise after directing four of the films in a row, feeling he’d left everything on the table with “Fast & Furious 6” in 2013. Diesel, on the other hand, persuaded him to return with the promise that with “F9” and the tenth and eleventh films in the franchise, he would be able to give the franchise and its characters a proper send-off.
