Called Fatma, the Turkish series follows an ordinary cleaning lady who commits an unexpected murder while on a quest for her missing ex-husband, Zafer. However, it’s not long before she finds herself entangled in a web of killings as she struggles to survive and stop her repressed emotions from getting the best of her.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “Reeling from the tragedy, a nondescript house cleaner embarks on a murderous streak as she searches for her missing husband and reckons with old wounds.” According to Variety, Netflix’s director of original content for Turkey, Pelin Distas, describes Fatma as “a punch in the stomach” and an allegory about “how you deal with life as a woman in Turkey.” Oh, and if you don’t speak Turkish, you might need to turn on the subtitles.

Burcu Biricik, Ugur Yucel, Mehmet Yilmaz Ak, Hazal Turesan, Olgun Toker, Gulcin Kultur Sahin, Deniz Hamzaoglu, and Cagdas Onur Ozturk star in the series, which was written and directed by up-and-coming writer Ozgur Onurme and produced by Basak Abacigil Sozeri.
