God’s Favorite Idiot is an upcoming American Apocalyptic workplace comedy television series for Netflix produced by and starring Ben Falcone. The series will consist of 16 episodes and the first batch of 8 episodes is scheduled to premiere on 15th June 2022.
In December 2020, Netflix ordered a series of 16 episodes of God’s Favorite Idiot. Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy were set to act and executive produce through their On The Day production. After working with Falcone and McCarthy on nobodies, Michael McDonald will direct and executive produce. Steve Mallory joined as executive producer in February 2021.
Casting Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy in the series announcement. Yanic Truesdale, Usman Ally, Ana Scotney, Chris Sandiford, and Steve Mallory were cast in February 2021. Filming began in March 2021 at Byron Bay and Ballina in Northern New South Wales. Filming ended in early June 2021 after shooting only 8 episodes of the series that were expected to end in November 2021: The second batch of 8 episodes would be shot at a later date.
