Kaathal is an upcoming Malayalam movie released on May 11, 2023. It stars Mammootty and Jyotika and is directed by Jeo Baby, and written by Adarsh ​​Sukumaran and Paulson Scalia. The film is produced by his Mammootty under the Mammootty Company banner.

Jeo Baby was rumoured to direct Mammootty and Jyothika in her next film in August 2022. Geo later confirmed the rumours during the film’s pre-production stages. In October of the same year, the film was officially announced, with principal photography beginning on the 20th and ending on November 22nd. Music was composed by Mathews Pulickan, with cinematographer and editor Salu K. Thomas and Francies Louis respectively.

On 18th October, the film’s title was officially announced as Kaathal – The Core, confirming the inclusion of Jyothika, making her return to Malayalam cinema after a 12-year hiatus. She was last seen in Seetha Kalyanam (2009). The writing team included Adarsh ​​Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. Jeo retained most of the technicians for his film The Great Indian Kitchen (2021), including cinematographer Sal K. Thomas, editor Frances Lewis, and music composer Matthews Plikan. Speaking about the film, Jeo said, “It’s the first time I’m working on a script that isn’t my own. But when I heard about it, I liked it, so I thought it would be nice if Mamucca starred in it and he liked it too. We went over his wife’s options and Mamukka suggested Jotika and she liked the story too and she said yes.
