In April, Netflix will release ‘Searching For Sheela,’ a documentary about Osho Rajneesh’s former aide. Ma Anand Sheela, who rose to international prominence after starring in the documentary “Wild Wild Country” about controversial spiritual guru Osho Rajneesh, will return to the screen in “Searching for Sheela,” which will be released on Netflix on April 22.
Sheela was instrumental in Rajneesh’s establishment of Rajneeshpuram, a utopian city for his followers in rural Oregon that operated from 1981 to 1985.
She was also the main perpetrator of the 1984 Rajneesh bioterror attack in Oregon, and she fled to Europe as a fugitive accused of arson, wiretapping, attempted murder, and mass poisonings after the attack.
She was going to plead guilty to attempted murder and assault and was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, with a 39-month parole period.
“Searching for Sheela,” billed as a docu-film, aims to explore her 34-year journey through India and shed light on her new life after serving time for her alleged crimes.
