Shaakuntalam is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language historical film, written and directed by Gunasekhar. Produced by Neelima Guna under Gunaa Teamworks and distributed by Sri Venkateswara Creations.
Based on a popular play Shakuntala by Kalidasa, Shakuntala, daughter of Meneka and Rishi Vishwamitra lives in the forest with her teacher, Rishi Kanva. She meets King Dushyant, falls in love, gets married and has a baby. But due to a sage’s curse, Dushyant forgets all about Shakuntala, until destiny brings them together again.
The film features Samantha in the titular role of Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as Dushyanta, the king of the Puru Dynasty along with Mohan Babu, Madhoo, Gautami, Aditi Balan and Ananya Nagalla in supporting roles.
Cinematography by Sekhar V. Joseph, Edited by Prawin Pudi, Music by Mani Sharma, Production company- Gunaa Teamworks. The movie is ready to hit the theatres on 17 February 2023 in the Telugu language.
