The film received a limited cinema release on Friday 15 January and now has come to Netflix on Friday 29 January. The Dig, drama film directed by Simon Stone, starring Carey Mullighan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James, Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin, Ken Stott, Archie Barnes, Monica Dolan.
The Dig,” out Jan. 29, was adapted by Moira Buffini (“Harlots”) from John Preston’s 2007 novel of the same name. Preston discovered that his aunt, Peggy Piggott (played in the movie by Lily James), had been involved in the excavation. and his subsequent research, he said in an interview, revealed “a treasure story for grown-ups.” It’s a tale of an unlikely kinship between Brown and Pretty across barriers of class and gender, and of the unearthing of a magnificent ancient civilization just as the world headed toward the devastation of war.
The three-part drama will see an all-star cast and tell the story of the discovery of an Anglo-Saxon burial ship at Sutton Hoo in 1939. Based on true events and a novel of the same name released in 2007 by John Preston, The Dig follows the journey of discovery of a prehistoric battleship from the Dark Ages that was found on the property of a woman’s house.
