Government launches Aarogya Setu App version for Jio Phones

The Aarogya Setu App has been an initiative of the MeitY ( Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) that intimates people when they come in contact with someone who has tested positive for the Coronavirus. It operates with Bluetooth.

This app was originally created for Android and Apple phones. The app has been installed by over 10 crore people in India.

And now the app has been extended to operate on the Jio phone. The Jio phone is a smart feature phone that is connected to the internet and thus has access to Bluetooth and GPS, necessary for the application to function. It was a low-cost phone by Reliance Telecom Limited. It was tagged ‘India ka smart phone’. It is used by as many as 5 million Indians. So this has been extended.

The users will have to dial a number. Then they will be called back and asked questions about the present condition of them. And then they can use the app by enabling the location and Bluetooth.
