Income Tax department warns the taxpayers of fake messages promising faster tax refunds

The Income-tax department and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have made the taxpayers cautious about fraudulent links that promise faster refunds by just clicking on it.

The government has decided to refund taxes faster to help businesses during this crisis. The tax departments reported that phishing messages have shown a sharp rise jeopardizing taxpayers details as soon as this decision was taken.

CBIC took up to Twitter and wrote, “Taxpayers Beware !!! Please don’t click on any fake link which promises to offer a refund. These are phishing messages and aren’t sent by CBIC or @Infosys_GSTN. Visit gst.gov.in for online filings related to GST”.

The income tax department also made a similar tweet and informed taxpayers that no such emails are being sent asking for their personal information including KYC and other necessary information from their side.

The GSTN network tweeted and forewarned the taxpayers about subscribing to a duplicitous website onlinefilingindia.in. “BEWARE of FRAUD website onlinefilingindia.in. It is trying to BAIT taxpayers to reveal personal and bank details. DO NOT answer messages, emails and lookalike websites which invite your personal details,” GSTN tweeted.

These impostors often fake themselves as tax officers or GSTN staff and fool people by asking them to immediately verify and update their accounts.
