India’s first indigenous COVID19 vaccine may get launched by August 15

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in collaboration with Bharat Biotech has received the approval for clinical trials and is planning to launch the first indigenous vaccine by August 15th.

12 Institutes have been chosen where the trials would take place. It is being treated as a top priority. It’s functioning and development has the attention of people from all over the world.

The vaccine called ‘Covaxin’ was developed in the high containment zone of Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad.

The selected institutes are to start preparing for the trials as fast as possible. “ You have been chosen as a clinical trial site of the BBV152 COVID Vaccine. In view of the public health emergency due to COVID-19 pandemic and urgency to launch the vaccine, you are strictly advised to fast track all approvals related to the initiation of the clinical trial and ensure that the subject enrolment is initiated no later than 7th July 2020”, stated the letter that was sent to them.

Such a rush for the availability of the vaccine is due to the high number of coronavirus cases in the country. The numbers are at an all-time high I’m states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu etc. Overall, the number of cases in India has crossed the 6 lakh mark and has seen over 18,000+ deaths due to the deadly virus.
