Instagram now supports video call of 50 people through messenger rooms

Facebook-owned Instagram has finally started rolling out Messenger Rooms integration on its app which supports calls with up to 50 people.
Instagram has declared the latest update on Twitter and has also unveiled the way to make the group video call including the process to send invites.“An easy way to video chat with up to 50 of your favourite people? Yes, please. Starting today, you can create @messenger Rooms on Instagram and invite anyone to join”, Instagram stated in its tweet.

Concurrently, Instagram also shared a video demonstrating the steps to make use of the new feature. The user will first have to go to Instagram Direct messages. On the top of the screen, a video chat icon will appear. Then tap on the video chat icon and it will take you to a menu which will provide an option to create a Room. The room will be created after this. Then the app will ask to invite your Instagram friends. A link will also be included that can be forwarded to people who are not present on Instagram or even Facebook. In the last step, the app will ask you to Join Room and the app will ask to open in the Messenger app.

“You can start a room from Messenger or Facebook, and soon you’ll be able to create and join rooms from Instagram Direct, WhatsApp and Portal too. The person who creates the room controls the settings for who can join, how easy a room is to find and whether to enable or share a link,” Erin Egan, Chief Privacy Officer, Policy, Facebook, had said in a statement.

As per the company, the default privacy settings were intended to be consistent with what you’d expect for where you create a room. For instance, the rooms which were created via Facebook Group opens by default to members of that Group. “Regardless of whether you use Rooms through your Facebook account or join as a guest, we don’t watch or listen to your audio or video calls,” Egan added.

Instagram also started rolling out a new feature called “Guides” earlier this week, in a bid to aid users to discover recommendations and content from their favourite creators. The Guides tab is a tab available inside a user’s profile where they can create article-like updates from old posts and videos. These can also include IGTV videos with small captions and headers in order to accentuate a particular topic.
