Without a doubt, Netflix has the best collection of series and movies there is, and even more enthralling is its ‘Thriller’ section. Fauda (2015 – present) – is an Israeli TV series. It premiered on the 15th of February, 2015, and was created by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff. It tells the story of an undercover Israeli Commandos team working in Palestine. The series finished airing its third season in 2019 and takes place in the Gaza Strip. It was a huge success and widely received by the fans and critics. Season 4 of the series was announced last year in September. In 2018, the series won eleven Israeli TV Academy Awards.
Peaky Blinders (2013 – present) – Created by Steven Knight and set in Birmingham, England, the series tells the story of the Shelby crime family in the aftermath of the First World War. It is loosely inspired by the real-life gangs and their exploits around the 1800s and early 1900s. it will remind you of ‘Game of Thrones with its high-stakes political power plays, conflicted characters, blood and gore, shady deals, rivalry, and murder and mayhem. Filming of the final season, sixth, was announced in January 2021.
Bodyguard (2018 – present) – The series centers around the Police Sergeant David Budd, a British army veteran suffering from PTSD, who is currently working for the London’s Metropolitan Police Service. As his job entails protecting a politician, he feels conflicted working for a proponent of war. The complications come when his personal views clash with his developing feelings for a woman whose policies he does not agree with. ‘Game of Thrones’ famed Richard Madden appears in the lead role. The show won him the prestigious ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Actor Television Series Drama’.
Behind Her Eyes (2021) – Based on Sarah Pinborough’s novel of the same name, this psychological thriller premiered on Netflix on the 17th of February, 2021. It tells the story of one Louise Barnsley, whose world goes awry as she begins an affair with her new boss. Issues increase further when she befriends his needy wife. A dark and twisted tale soon begins and Louise is soon caught in a web of secrets. It’s weird and it’s shocking and you wouldn’t want to stop watching it in between.
You (2018 – present) – if you like a good serial killer story, which is a bit ridiculous and very juicy, you should go for ‘YOU’. Another Book-to-Series show, it’s based on Caroline Kepnes’ novel of the same name. It revolves around a book store employee Joe, a serial killer who, in his obsession with a graduate student, uses technology to track her, find a way into her life and pretty much murder all her friends. Further, he runs away to LA to avoid persecution and gets obsessed with another girl and falls back to his old ways and kills again. Jam-packed with twists and turns, it is definitely a once-in-a-Lifetime kind of a show (Lifetime HAHA get it?)
Season 3 was announced by Netflix, to be released sometime in 2021.
