Uber India lays off 600 employees due to the covid19 impact

It was announced on Tuesday by Uber, India that it will lay off 600 of its full-time employees due to the impact of coronavirus. The president of UberIndia and south Asia businesses, Pradeep Parameshwaram said in a statement, that affected employees would be across affected employees and rider support among other functions.

“The impact of COVID 19 and the unpredictable nature of the recovery has left uber India with no choice but to reduce the size of its workforce. Around 600full time across driver and rider support, as well as other functions are being impacted. He noted that the reductions are a part of previously announced global job cuts.

“Today is an incredibly sad day for the employees leaving the uber family and all of us in the company. We have made the decision now so that we can make the future decision with confidence. I want to apologize for departing colleagues and extend my heartfelt thanks to them for their contribution to uber, the riders, and the drier partners, we serve in India.” said Pradeep Parameshwaram.

Along with 10 weeks of salary, the employees will be paid insurance coverage for the next 6 months and outplacement support.

The development comes when OLA announced to lay off 1400 of its employees as revenues fell to 95% in the last two months. After which uber globally laid off 6,700 employees.
