Uttar Pradesh forms labour commission to ensure economic security for migrant workers

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath has formed a labour commission to ensure employment and security for all workers during the pandemic.

The committee is set to meet every 15 days and discuss the changes and strategies it will initiate. On the lower level, districts will have weekly meetings to discuss the situation. Along with Yogi Adityanath, the committee will also report to the subsequent MLAs as well as the minister of micro, small and medium enterprises, Nitin Gadkari as well as the minister for agriculture and rural development, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar.

The commission will link between workers and the industry so as to engage in secure employment of the migrant labourers. They will also organise training programmes and skill enhancement activities to boost the morale of these workers.

Moreover, the commission is set to provide basic housing facilities, insurance, secure employment to the suffering labourers. They will also create a portal to monitor the work done by commission and see the improvement of these labourers.

Lakhs of Migrant workers have been suffering in this pandemic, with many facing difficulties travelling back home to not having enough income to feed their families. About 35 lakh migrant workers have been infected. The government faced a lot of criticism by taking slow actions, which led to many migrants walk for miles and many even died of exhaustion. Many actors like Sonu Sood came to rescue these migrants and organised arrangements for their travel. The government has now resumed certain railway lines to ensure that these labourers reach back home safely.
