Vidya Balan is one actor in our Hindi film industry, who has made it on her own. Whether it was her role as a mother in Paa, or her rustic performance in Ishqiya, or her pathbreaking role of Silk in The Dirty Picture, she pushed the boundaries of conventional film acting, broke the barriers, and has set precedent for the next generation to take risks with their choices and divulge in good scripts.
She recently revealed the poster of her upcoming venture, ‘Sherni’, in which she portrays the role of an upright Forest Officer, who strives for balance in a world of man-animal conflict while seeking her true calling in a hostile environment. Vidya aptly described her character in the film as “Fearless as she steps out into the world!”.
The film is slated to release on an OTT platform, globally in June 2021. The film is directed by Amit Masurkar, who previously directed India’s Oscar-nominated film, Newton. Its brilliant cast includes Sharad Saxena, Mukul Chaddha, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala and Neeraj Kabi.
The entire team of Sherni managed to shoot the film in Madhya Pradesh when the lockdown norms were eased. Amid the covid-19 pandemic, Vidya’s last film ‘Shakuntala Devi’ also released on a streaming platform. ‘Sherni’ will be her second OTT release.
