Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s case is a very popular matter. In this case, there has been a stir from the streets of Mumbai to the political corridors. Sushant Singh was found dead a year ago on June 14, 2020, at his apartment in Bandra. The case was initially probed by the Mumbai Police, who called it a suicide based on the postmortem report. The Sambihar Police took the matter into their own hands but the Mumbai Police refused to cooperate with their FIR, terming it as illegal, as the case was registered under their jurisdiction. The matter went to the Supreme Court. The court said that the Bihar Police FIR was valid. After this, in August last year itself, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI later said that they had not reached any conclusion about Rajput’s death and hence their investigation remained open. CBI is still silent whether the actor was killed or committed suicide and whether he had depression, anxiety etc according to the doctors who treated him. Questions asked to the CBI regarding the status of the entire case remained unanswered. Mumbai Police was continuing the investigation of its Accident Death Report (ADR) which was filed at Bandra Police Station.

Based on the postmortem report, Mumbai Police confirmed a week after its preliminary investigation that the actor hanged himself using a kurta. Bandra Police recorded the statements of several high profile directors and producers including Aditya Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali etc. A Mumbai Police official said, “We have recorded several statements and checked their film contract papers. As far as pressure in the profession is concerned, no such evidence has been found. At the same time, the Enforcement Directorate also probed the money laundering angle in the case as Rajput’s family has accused Rhea and her family of siphoning off crores of rupees that were missing from her account. The ED did not find anything concrete except drug interactions between Rhea, her brother and others.

It was shared with the Narcotics Control Bureau, which initiated a probe into the drugs angle by registering FIR No. 15/20 against Rhea Chakraborty, her family and others. In this FIR, NCB recorded the statements of celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Rakul Preet etc, but there is no progress in the investigation. However, during the investigation of FIR 15/20, NCB Mumbai registered another case on 16/20 and arrested a drug smuggler from Powai. Later this case was linked to Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Shoik for supplying drugs to Rajput. NCB had arrested Rhea, Shoik, Rajput’s manager Samuel Miranda and house help Dipesh Sawant in the month of September last year, the investigation is still on.
