Parineeti Chopra, a Bollywood star, and Raghav Chadha, a Rajya Sabha member of the Aam Aadmi Party, were engaged on Saturday in a ceremony at Kapurthala House in the capital.
Among those present at the occasion were three Chief Ministers: Bhagwant Mann of Punjab, Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi, and Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya.
During the ardas held at the location, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, who was also a guest, could be seen standing close to the couple.
However, sources claim that the Punjabi cabinet members who were absent from the ceremony were occupied in Jalandhar as a result of the by-poll results.
“We could not have left the workers, who worked tirelessly for over a month, alone. They are the ones who ensured the party’s victory in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election. That is why we did not go,” a cabinet minister told.
Both Dr Gurpreet Kaur, the wife of Mann, and Sunita, the wife of Kejriwal, attended the event.
Kapil Sibal, P Chidambaram, Abhishek Singhvi, Sanjay Singh, Rajiv Shukla and his wife Anuradha Prasad, as well as musician Mika Singh and fashion designer Manish Malhotra, all made time to witness the engagement.
