Although the red carpet has since become the Cannes Film Festival’s main draw, it wasn’t until 1984 that it attained widespread recognition. What started out as a simple revamp of the Oscars-inspired trek up the stairs 40 years ago has grown into one of the Festival de Cannes’ most notable features.
Dolly Singh, a fashion influencer and content creator with over 1.6 million Instagram followers, isn’t in the mood to try anything new even though she’ll be visiting the “capital of cinema” for the first time this year with big names like Manushi Chhillar and Anushka Sharma.
The 29-year-old Delhi “girl next door,” who began her career as a fashion writer and quickly rose to prominence online for her unique styling advice and frugal buying strategies, wants to wear a more conventional and rooted appearance.
She states, “The Cannes Film Festival has been an important platform for Indian artists to showcase their talent on the international stage. Over the years Indian talent has not only brought Indian cinema to the world stage but has also helped to break down cultural barriers and promote cross-cultural exchange. Today I am honoured to be contributing in my own unique way to this exchange and making my debut this year at the festival. From making candles in the small town of Nainital to walking the red carpet at Cannes with AJIO and Brut India, I’m truly grateful and excited for this opportunity. This was a long-standing dream and I’ve finally ticked an important milestone off my bucket list.”
