The great Sanjay Leela Bhansali, back when he wasn’t so great, was involved in an unrecognized incident from her impulsive past. Kajol was his first choice for the deaf-mute Anna in his Khamoshi: The Musical, the film for which he was casting. It was nearly impossible for a new director to work with a star as big as Kajol. Tanuja, Kajol’s extraordinarily talented mother, was reached by Bhansali in some way. Finally, Kajol’s valuable time was given to Bhansali so he could read his script. But not in Mumbai, though.
She requested that he meet her at her hotel at a specific time while she was filming in the rural areas of Gujarat.
Bhansali travelled by car, train, and Aeroplan to get the location for the narration. He was instructed to wait “for some time” in the hotel lobby by Kajol. Bhansali was patient. Minutes turned into hours. Bhansali was still waiting after eight hours.
When he finally called the celebrity, he was informed that she “forgot” he was waiting. To make a long story short, Madhuri Dixit was also offered the part, but she hesitated for months before declaring she lacked the confidence to carry it off.
