A game of cards, parties infected as many as 38 persons with COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh

With the national lockdown, while some people are finding ways to keep themselves engaged and finding new hobbies, some are growing restless with a feeling that they’ve got nothing to do.

As such, a driver in Vijayawada invited his neighbours and friends for a game of cards. Also, his wife invited womenfolk from nearby houses. With that game, as many as 24 people have tested positive for the virus.

With that, the authorities started investigating; the driver has travelled to Kolkata in West Bengal to deliver some goods. And he returned on April 4 via Odisha.
After the driver tested positive, the primary contacts were identified and screened. Most of them were found infected.

Another driver who has been to Dubai, and returned via Sri Lanka and Chennai a month ago. Though he has come home from a foreign country, he hasn’t observed self-quarantine. On top of that, he attended parties, thus spreading the virus. This person has affected 14 people because of his carelessness.

The city Vijayawada accounts for as many as 100 of the 177 positive cases reported in the Krishna District. The city has thus been a hotspot. The District Collector Imtiyaz Ahmed said that the Government alone cannot put a check to the virus without proper co-operation from the public. It is a part of the citizens to be responsible and stay home unless it is an emergency.
