A source close to the series shared that the makers have planned a month-long event with the cast in Mumbai. As per reports in Mid-Day, a set has been set up at Ellora Studios in Mira Road, where the team will shoot till early December. This also suggests that the production has chosen to practice a ‘no phone’ policy to maintain secrecy around the thriller.

Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, the series is an Indian take on the successful British series – Luther. An engaging dark and gritty crime-drama series, it will bring together a unique storytelling format and powerful characters. It will also star Esha Deol in a pivotal role.

While Ajay Devgn will once again play the role of a cop, the whodunit drama is expected to go deeper, presenting the star in a never-before-seen avatar. The 52-year-old, who is excited about his debut in the OTT arena, said that Rudra: The Age of Darkness is “a compelling and highly intriguing story.

Announcing the show, he said in a statement, “It has always been my endeavour to tell unique stories and work with great talent. The idea is to raise the level of entertainment in India. The digital world excites me, and I look forward to working with Applause and the BBC to bring this series to life on Disney+ Hotstar VIP. Rudra – The Age of Darkness is a compelling and extremely intriguing story and I can’t wait to start this new journey!

Stating that “playing a cop on screen is not new to him“, Ajay said that the reason he was attracted to the series is that his character is ‘deep, complex and deep’. The actor concluded, “What attracted me the most to his personality is that he is probably the most grey character you have seen in recent times.”
