An Indian killed and 2 others injured in firing by Nepal Police near India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Sitamarhi

An Indian national was killed and two others were injured on Friday when Nepal’s Armed Police Force personnel opened fire at a group of Indians, who, they claimed, forcibly tried to enter into the Nepalese territory after crossing the southern border during lockdown deep inside Nepalese territory and adjoining Bihar’s Sitamarhi district.

According to the official reports, Vikesh Yadav (22), who got injured with a bullet in the abdomen area, has capitulated, while Uday Thakur (24) and Umesh Ram (18) are injured and admitted to a private hospital in Sitamarhi. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General (DG) Kumar Rajesh Chandra informed PTI in Delhi that the incident took place around 8:40 am “deep inside Nepalese territory”. And an Indian national, Laagan Yadav (45) has been taken into custody by Nepal border police.

According to the preliminary reports claimed by the locals, the confrontation started when the Armed Police Force (APF) objected to the presence of Laagan Yadav’s daughter-in-law (who is a Nepal citizen) in their area after they saw her talking to some people from India. And the relation between the locals on either side of the border never had any issues a d people move around to meet their family members.

However, APF personnel objected to this meeting when there was a heated argument among both the borders and later about 70-80 Indians gathered at the spot and stated that they first fired in the air to disperse the crowd and fearing that they don’t snatch their weapons, and later started to initiate armed fire resulting in three persons getting shot.

However, the situation is normal now and the local commander immediately got in touch with our Nepalese counterparts APF, as claimed by Chandra, with Senior officials of the local police, administration and APF were on the spot and now the area is guarded by the 51 battalions of SSB and is assigned to safeguard the 1,751 km open India-Nepal border.
