Apps reassess service to make our life easier amid the lockdown

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of nationwide lockdown till May 3 on April 14, online payment app PhonePe has brought in a new feature called “Stores”, where it’s users can place grocery orders from their nearby shops.

Amid the lockdown, customers are curious to know which shops are working and who are providing home deliveries. The app has included two filters in the “Stores” category- “ currently operational” and “home delivery”. The information is updated time-to-time with the changing situation, reported Vivek Lohchel, Vice-president, office business development, PhonePe. The home delivery option helps it’s users to search the nearest functional groceries and order from the same.

Apart from PhonePe, the other online apps that have come forward to mitigate the problems of the public through doorstep delivery of daily necessities, medicines and other essential services are swiggy, Zomato, Domino’s, Dunzo and many more.
The big names for online delivery services have collapsed due to high demand from the customers like Amazon Now, Groffers and Big Basket. Hence the food delivery apps have come to the rescue by collaborating with the local stores and getting the ordered items delivered by their already registered drivers.

Swiggy has come into a partnership with Hindustan Unilever Ltd, P&G India, Godrej consumer Products, Dabur India and other brands. The leading pizza makers in the world, Domino’s has also taken up the responsibility for doorstep delivery of essentials. Their chief franchise, Jubilant FoodWorks has conglomerated with ITC Foods to assure delivery of goods like Ashirbaad Aata, spices etc. at homes, confirmed it’s CEO Pratik Pota.

Though grocery and medicines have been the top of every household, the online apps have also made an alternative for e-papers. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, rumours were spread that newspapers act as a medium for the spread of the virus.
