Donald Trump, the president of the United States of America revealed that he has been taking Hydroxychloroquine and zinc to protect himself against the Covid-19. The president made this revelation on Monday to reporters.
Concerning the Hydroxychloroquine the president said “ I’ve taken it for about a week and a half now. And I’m still here”. Mr Trump also said he consulted from his doctor before taking it after many people started doing so and that he gets a lot of positive calls concerning it.
The president admitted to reporters that he has been taking the malaria drug as a defence against coronavirus for about a week now. The FDA issued out a warm that the drug should not be used because it causes irregular heartbeats. The president also said “I happen to be taking it.
I’m taking it, hydroxychloroquine. Right now, yeah. A couple of weeks ago I started taking it. Because I think its good, I heard a lot of good stories… I take a pill every day. He also added that “you’d be surprised at how many people are taking it… The frontline workers many are taking it”.
For weeks Trump has been pushing and promoting malaria medicine as a potential cure for Covid-19. Trump said his doctor didn’t recommend the drug to him but the White House physician did. In a statement, made on April 24 by the FDA it said “aware of reports of serious heart rhythm problems” in covid-19 patients that were being treated with hydroxychloroquine.
On April 6 clinical trials began to determine if the drug can prevent SARS CoV-2 although several studies have shown that the drug can prevent the replication of coronavirus. In late April, Stephen M Hahn, the FDA commissioner said: “The FDA will continue to monitor and investigate these potential risks and will communicate publicly when more information is available”.
