Patrick Wilson, making his directorial debut, will be directing the next American supernatural horror movie Insidious: The Red Door. Scott Teems will write the script based on a tale by Leigh Whannell. It is the fifth film in the Insidious series and a direct sequel to Insidious (2010) and Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013). Roles from the movie are reprised by Ty Simpkins, Wilson, Andrew Astor, Rose Byrne, and Lin Shaye. Sinclair Daniel and Hiam Abbass also join the cast.
Blumhouse Productions decided to pursue opportunities to make further Insidious: The Last Key (2018) films, including a crossover with the Sinister franchise. The company said in October 2020 that Wilson will direct and act in the new movie, with Teems penning the narrative based on a Whannell-written scenario.
Sony Pictures Releasing has set July 7, 2023, as the U.S. release date for Insidious: The Red Door.
Ten years after the last scenes of the second movie, Josh Lambert travels to the East to drop off his son Dalton at a picture-perfect Ivy League school. But when his long-repressed memories unexpectedly resurface to torment them both, Dalton’s ambition of attending college turns into a nightmare. Josh and Dalton must travel back to the Further to put an end to the haunting and exorcise the demons once and for all in order to put an end to the Lambert nightmare.
