Based on the well-known Korean webtoon of the same name, Kim Yong Hoon’s upcoming South Korean thriller TV series Mask Girl will be a Netflix Original. Although there is no official release date yet, we’ve heard that August 2023 is the target date.

The series is exclusively intended for adults and is based on an 18+ webtoon. Uncertainty exists regarding whether the K-drama adaptation will downgrade the rating to appeal to a wider audience or if it will be faithful and maintain the same themes.

The entire series will be helmed by Kim Yong-hoon, who is best known for directing his feature film debut, Beasts Clawing at Straws. The two principal production firms behind this are House of Impression and Bon Factory.

The premiere date of Mask Girl season 1 hasn’t been made public by Netflix yet. They provided a general Q3 2023 release date for the series in their Korean slate announcement.

According to current rumours, the Netflix original series will premiere on August 18, 2023. But that time frame could change.

Netflix released a new synopsis in January 2023 as part of the 2023 slate reveal for their Korean lineup, and it is as follows:

“Mask Girl is a story about Kim Mo-mi, an everyday office worker who is self-conscious about her appearance and a live-streamer at night who hides her face with a mask, as she gets caught up in an unexpected incident and experiences a dramatic turn of events.
