No Time To Die marks the return of Daniel Craig’s 007 to the big screen, but the new spy thriller also marks a franchise first for Jeffrey Wright, who plays CIA agent Felix Leiter in the films. Daniel Craig’s tenure as super-spy James Bond began in 2006 with the edgier, Bourne-influenced origin story Casino Royale and will soon come to an end with the inclusion of his fifth outing in the role, No Time To Die. With 007’s love interest Madeleine Swann living longer than any Bond girl before her, No Time To Die looks set to spend a lot of James Bond franchise traditions.
Although No Time To Die is attempting to shake up the franchise’s routine, one of the film’s returning supporting cast members can boast an impressively consistent new record for the James Bond franchise. Every Returning Character In James Bond 25: No Time To Die With the release of No Time To Die, actor Jeffrey Wright will make history as the first actor to play Bond’s CIA ally Felix Leiter three times.
The character had previously appeared in seven films in the official franchise prior to Wright’s appearance in Casino Royale, but he was almost always played by a different actor each time. This has led some fans to speculate that, like James Bond, Felix Leiter may be a codename given to various people when they start working for their respective shadowy intelligence agencies. This would explain why Bond’s pal (like Bond himself) constantly switches appearances, and it would support the idea that anyone from Miss Moneypenny to M to Q is an interchangeable codename (hence their frequent recasting).
The role of Leiter was played by David Hedison twice, in 1973’s Live & Let Die and 1989’s License To Kill, so this James Bond fan theory isn’t without flaws. Strangely, in The Living Daylights, Hedison was replaced by John Terry in between Bond films, but the original actor was brought back when Terry struggled to make an impression in the role. Wright, on the other hand, will be the first actor to play Bond in three films, starting with Casino Royale, reappearing in the critically panned 2008 sequel Quantum of Solace, and then taking a two-film hiatus between Skyfall and Spectre to return in No Time To Die.No Time To Die/James Bond 25 (2021)Release Date: Oct 08, 2021.
