The ministry issued an order today in which it stated that OCI cardholders with pressing family emergencies will be granted entry into the country. “Couples where one spouse is an OCI cardholder and the other is an Indian national and they have permanent residence in India,” will also be permitted for entry, along with university students who have valid cards and Indian citizens as parents.

As per the order, “Minor children born to Indian nationals abroad and holding OCI cards,” are also allowed.

India had debarred the visa-free entry facility allowed to Overseas Citizen of India cardholders on March 18 amidst the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Even for emergency reasons, a huge number of Indian nationals whose children are OCI cardholders and many people of Indian-origin having the card were unable to travel to India, because of the suspension of their long-term visa.
