India wrote history on OSCARS 2023, and won 2 awards this year!

The Oscars were held on 12th March 2023, and what a bang it was for us! ‘The Elephant Whispers’, a short film directed by Guneet Monga won the Oscars for Best Documentary Short Film. The film was selected from among other films like ‘Haul Out,’ ‘How Do You Measure A Year?’, ‘The Martha Mitchell Effect,’ and ‘Stranger At The Gate’ to take home the honour.

The film was 41 minutes long and is the first film from the Indian Production house to win Oscars. It tells the tale of abandoned elephants and their caretakers. It also marks the directorial debut of Kartiki Gonsalves.

Producer Guneet Monga said, “My heart is full of love and excitement, most of it imbibed from everyone in India cheering for our win. So grateful to the visionary filmmaker Gonsalves and to Netflix who gave us the biggest stage in the world. This is for my beautiful, diverse country, India,” she wrote in her caption.” “To women who want to tell stories, the future of cinema is audacious, the future is here. This is for my beautiful, diverse country, India,” she added.

She got emotional while giving her speech. This is a great and proud moment for Indians. This is only the start, who knows what the future holds!
