Maharashtra Govt may extend the lockdown till May 31, as state experience a hike in coronavirus cases

The Maharashtra government is noodling up the fact of extending the lockdown till May 31. Regions including Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad and Malegaon are on the list as they have had the scenarios for the extension.

The discussion for the above was done in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat and PWD Minister Ashok.

“The government expressed its intent to increase the lockdown in MMR, Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad and Malegaon town in Nashik district till May 31. The state’s view is going to be conveyed to the Centre in writing,” the official said.

“In the remainder of the state, the rules of the Centre are going to be implemented once they are announced before the lockdown 3.0 ends on May 17.”

In the meeting, it was also decided that the no-containment areas would be relieved but the red zones will be as they are under the lockdown.

Maharashtra is that the most coronavirus infected state within the country. On May 13, the amount of coronavirus positive patients in Maharashtra increased to 25,922. The death toll had risen to 975.
