MLA demands a change in the title of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, which stirs war on Twitter.

Congress MLA Amin Patel, from Maharashtra, demanded to change the title of the movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. He spoke in the state assembly and claimed that the title maligns the name of Kathiawad City saying, “It is not the same as it was in the 1950s. Women there are excelling in different professions.

The movie features Alia Bhatt in the titular role and is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It tells the story of the Gangubai, who was one of the most powerful and respected ‘madams’ of Mumbai’s red-light area, Kamathipura, during the 1960s. The movie has been adapted from a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book, ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’.

The official teaser was released on the 24th of February 2021 and has already received more than 29 million views, 507K likes and 80K comments on Youtube. The movie is set to be released on the 30th of July, 2021.

At present, Alia Bhatt is one of the highest-paid actresses in India. She made her debut as a child actor in Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta and Ashutosh Rana starrer ‘Sangharsh’ (1999). She further went on to play the leading roles in popular movies like ‘Student of the Year’ (2012), ‘2 States’ (2014), ‘Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania’ (2014), ‘Dear Zindagi’ (2016), ‘Highway’ (2014) for which she won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress, and 3 Best Actress Awards for her role as a Bihari migrant in ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016).

Her most recent successes are ‘Raazi’ (2018) and ‘Gully Boy’ (2019). Apart from ‘Ganguabai Kathiawadi’, we will also see her next in Ayan Mukherjee’s Brahmastra’.
