The Narcotics Control Bureau filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging Bombay High Court’s decision to grant bail to Rhea Chakraborty in the drug case. Very recently, on the 5th of March, the NCB filed an 11,700-page charge sheet against Rhea, her brother Showik and 31 others, in an alleged drug smuggling case.
As reported by The Tribune, a bench of the current CJI of India, Chief Justice Bobde along with Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian will hear her plea on the 18th of March regarding the same.
The Bombay High Court granted her bail on the 7th of October last year and demanded a deposit of a personal bond worth Rs. 1 lakh. However, the bail plea of her brother was rejected.
As the bail was granted to Rhea and two others, the court had directed them to not leave the country without the permission of the special NDPS court and also asked them to deposit their passports with the NCB.
The siblings were arrested in September of 2020 along with a few others, in relation to NCB’s probe into drug peddling and consumption. All of this set into motion after the untimely demise of the actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, on the 14th of June, 2020.
