Hansal Mehta’s Omerta starring Rajkummar Rao as Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, British terrorist of Pakistani descent released in 2018. The film despite receiving positive reviews from critics wasn’t picked up by any streaming platforms.
After a long struggle, we can see that Mr Mehta seems the film has now found a streaming partner in Zee5 and is all set to release this June. The film retold the story of Omar Saeed Sheikh, who kidnapped and murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002.

We cannot agree more that this could be one of the best movies of Hansal Mehta and Rajkumar Rao till date. The director-actor duo prior to it, worked together on CityLights, Shahid and Aligarh which was also made a standout position as it was appreciated by the critics a lot.

Recently director Hansal Mehta took to Twitter and wrote, “It is as much a surprise to me as it is to everyone. Lekin Chalo, #Omerta will find a streaming platform finally. A lot of passion, effort and heartburn has gone into this film.” He tweeted about the delay in a film like Omerta finding a streaming partner, The film’s June release on Zee5 was confirmed by Cinema Rare on Twitter.

The film also starred Rajesh Tailang, Satwant Kaur, and Blake Allan in lead roles. The film particularly won praises for Rajkummar’s remarkable act as the deadly terrorist.

Amid the lockdown, a lot of movies were not able to release on their scheduled time, now which are releasing through streaming platforms which can be easily seen by the audience sitting in their home. Also Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s unreleased film, Ghoomketu recently released on Zee5.

OPINIONS OF CRITICS.
Filmibeat.com Said “Omerta is a brave attempt which doesn’t sugarcoat the bitter pill. However, its effectiveness is lessened by the tedious tone of the narrative. The plain vanilla treatment to the subject might not appeal to some. The film is worth a watch purely for Rajkummar Rao’s mind-blowing transformation into a sinister figure”

Hindustantimes.com quoted “As the film does not delve much into the particular subject’s personal life, it becomes more of a larger comment on communal hatred and the futility of religion when it is used to propagate violence and evil purposes.”

According to Economictimes.indiatimes.com, ‘Omerta’ is not an easy film to watch. It cuts the protagonist’s movements down to size in episodic chunks and then regurgitates the vivid moments into scenes of colour-blinded documentation.
