Residents of Kamathipura protests against Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi', UPDATES here.

‘Gangubai Kathiawad’, his upcoming project is based on the chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of the Mumbai‘. According to the recent reports, residents of Kamathipura, the famous brothel(red light area of Mumbai) on which the movie is based, felt that the portrayal of ‘Gangubai’ is the ‘blatant misrepresentation’ and ‘malign the 200 years old history of Kamathipura.’

In the official statement released it is mentioned that the movie also defamed and negated the efforts put in by the residents to efface the ‘social stigma’ attached to Kamathipura’s name, thus hurting the sentiments of the residents. Not only that because of the blatant and shameful portrayal the movie is a threat to the current and the future generation of Kamathipura as it might cause them a lot of damage.

The statement further states that once again few people want to monetize the sufferings of the Kamathipura’s residents and because of this hundreds of residents of Kamathipura (young, children and adults) have decided to protest against the movie. The movie is officially set to release on July, 30th as per the official announcement.
