Raj Kundra is a British-Indian businessman. In 2004, he was ranked as the 198th richest British Asian by success. Raj Kundra is associated with Essential Sports and Media which was involved with production and distribution and Iconic Investments, a private fund trading in equity markets. Other ventures included Satyug Gold, Super Fight League, and more recently Bastian Hospitality a restaurant chain in Mumbai. He came to the limelight in 2009 after he married Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. He is involved in many controversial headlines.
1. Marriage: Raj Kundra has been married twice, first to Kavita Kundra, with whom he had a daughter. The couple later divorced. On 22 November 2009 Kundra married Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. They have a son, born on 21 May 2012, and a daughter, born through surrogacy on 15 February 2020. Kundra is involved with his wife’s charitable organisation, the Shilpa Shetty Foundation. His book titled, How Not to Make Money was published in 2013.
2. Match-fixing: In 2013, Raj was involved in match-fixing, wherein Police with regard to the 2013 Indian Premier League had involved the arrest of some Rajasthan Royals players, further Delhi police have given a clean chit to Kundra in reply on right to information (RTI). In July 2015 a panel appointed by the Supreme Court of India imposed a life ban from the cricket-related activity on him. Further, Kundra denied the involvement and appeal to the Supreme Court of India.
3. Links with Underworld: According to Jagran Tv, Raj Kundra was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in October 2019, in a case regarding business dealings with a man named Ranjeet Bindra, who was arrested by Mumbai Police for being a frontman for Dawood Ibrahim’s aide Iqbal Mirchi.
4. Bitcoins Controversy: Bitcoin has become the latest high in demand currency and trading in it has been the recent trend. Kundra was found laundering money and was involved in the Bitcoin controversy. After a thorough investigation, the Enforcement Directorate found out that the entrepreneur was associated with a company Gain Bitcoin which was accused of fraud of Rs.2000 crores.
5. Current ongoing issue of the pornographic case: A complaint was filed against Kundra by Poonam Pandey for having indiscriminately used her explicit videos and photos despite the expiration of their contract. And now we see him being arrested for the illegal circulation of pornographic content. Many have been arrested in the case.
