Anand Mahindra shared a video of an e-rickshaw driver’s innovative idea of practising social distancing

Social distancing is the major focus to stop the spread of coronavirus. The public transport is the most essential part of the city, big or small and that’s the place where people around the city commute together and in this time social distancing could be challenging as so many people are using the same form of transport. So, amid the coronavirus pandemic across the country and worldwide a video of an e-rickshaw puller was uploaded by industrialist and chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra for his innovative way of practicing social distancing while travelling. The rickshaw puller received the highest praise from the industrialist.

Anand Mahindra tweeted a video of an e-rickshaw puller whose rickshaw was compartmentalised in a manner that no two passengers could come in physical contact with each other. This was done by segregating compartments into four sections with all the passengers having an access to the sitting location. Usually there are two seats in the middle compartment in which we often see six people sitting very close but in this case the seat was removed to ensure proper distance between the passengers. Another thing which was noticed in the video was that it had only two passengers sitting and the two passengers are seen sitting in a diagonal direction to the other passenger. Also, the driver’s seat is separated by the passenger area by a solid partition. The video recorder has termed the custom design of the e-rickshaw as ‘Corona innovation’.

Sharing the video, Anand Mahindra tweeted,” The capabilities of our people to rapidly innovate and adapt to new circumstances never ceases to amaze me.” The chairman was very pleased and impressed by the driver’s innovation and showered him with utmost praise possible. He also tagged his executive director – Auto and Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Rajesh Jejurikar and asked him to hire the driver as an advisor for R&D and product development team. Since the upload the post has received 22,000 likes and 4,000 retweets with everyone praising the rickshaw owner, one of the comments read as “That’s almost a “Quarantine Tuk-Tuk”!!Brilliant!!”

The coronavirus pandemic has made everything shutdown and the governments across the world are trying their best to keep their citizens safe and restart all the services to prevent the falling economy. Amid the crisis the rickshaw driver may just have found a solution to protect people from contamination after coronavirus crisis.
