The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an upcoming American fantasy television series directed by J. A. Bayona. It is based on the novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices by J. R. R. Tolkien and showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick develops it.
The series is set thousands of years before Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the Second Age of Middle-earth. The timeline of the show is set during a time of relative peace. It covers all the significant events of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, the descendants of whom go on to found the human kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor and the making of the entire world from a flat plane into a spherical planet and the last alliance between Elves and Men. These events take place over thousands of years but they are condensed for the series.
The producers are Ron Ames and Christopher Newman under Amazon Studios, Tolkien Estate, Tolkien Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema. Many actors are involved in the making of this fantasy series. Famous and prominent actors such as Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle and Lenny Henry play pivotal and important roles. The theme music composer consists of Howard Shore and Bear McCreary.
The first season consists of 8 episodes. Each episode’s running time consists of 1 hour. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to be released on September 2 and distributed by Amazon Studios.
