Family donates late actor Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyes

On October 29, Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, also known as Appu or Power Star by his admirers, died of a major heart attack. Following this, Dr Bhujang Shetty received a call from Puneeth Pajkumar’s brother, Raghavendra Rajkumar, to retrieve his eyeballs for donation. After his father Dr Rajkumar in 2006 and his mother Parvathamma in 2017, Puneeth Rajkumar became the third member of his family to give his eyes.

Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyes, like his father Dr Rajkumar’s in 2006 and his mother Parvathamma’s in 2017, were donated following his death. Dr Bhujang Shetty received a call from Raghavendra Rajkumar after his death on October 29th, asking him to retrieve his brother’s eyeballs for donation. Dr Shetty is the same doctor who retrieved Dr Rajkumar’s eyes in 2006 and Parvathamma’s eyes in 2017. The Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank (Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital) in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, received Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyeballs. Dr Shetty is the chairman and founder of Narayana Nethralaya, the company that owns the eye bank.

Taking to Twitter, fellow actor and friend of Puneeth Rajkumar, Chetan Kumar, also pledged to donate his eyes. He tweeted, “While I was at the hospital to see Appu Sir, a medical group came to remove his eyes in 6-hour window after death Appu Sir—like Dr Rajkumar & @NimmaShivanna—donated his eyes. Following in their footsteps & in Appu Sir’s memory, we must all pledge to donate our #eyes as well. I do so.
