IMD warns Delhi and other northwestern states of a major Heatwave on May 25 and May 26

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert warning for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Rajasthan due to heatwave prevailing across North India for 25 May and 26 May. Recently, the temperature in many parts of India has risen rapidly and reached above 45 degrees.

According to IMD, “Heatwave conditions over some parts with a severe heatwave over isolated pockets are very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Telangana during the next five days.”

The weather agency said that heatwave conditions will persist in Delhi and its neighbouring regions due to dry and northwesterly winds prevailing over northwest India and it is expected that maximum temperature in Delhi will reach to 46 Degrees on 25 May and 26 May.

However, the temperature will dip to 38 degrees from May 30.

According to Mahesh Palawat of Skymet weather, it is likely that Delhi and its neighbouring states will get relief from pre-monsoon activities like rain and dust storm.
