Indian railways suspend all the passenger trains till May 17

A statement from the Ministry of Railways said, “The cancellation of all passenger train services extended till May 17. However, the movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students & other persons stranded at different places to be carried out by Shramik special trains. Freight & Parcel train operations shall continue”.

The parcel trains have been running to ensure the supply of essential perishable goods like fruits, vegetables, milk and dairy products and seeds for agriculture purpose. Freight trains are also running.

The special trains will run from point to point on the request of both the respective State Governments for sending and receiving people. These are planned for nominated people who are identified and registered by state governments.

Booking for all passenger trains including premium trains will remain suspended till 17 May and no advance reservation of trains tickets, including e-tickets, can be made till further orders. The online train ticket cancellation facility will remain functional.

The railways have converted 5,000 coaches to isolation wards for Covid-19 patients and plans to add another 15,000 coaches to the list.
