Kangana was seen making a remark “India received freedom in 2014 and what it got in 1947 was “alms”. In the event she can be heard saying That was not freedom but ‘bheekh’ (alms), and the freedom came in 2014.” in Hindi.

BJP MP Varun Gandhi,  who has been sidelined by his own party for quite a sometime now has reacted to this statement of the actress. The MP posted a short clip of her interview in his Twitter account and slammed her saying, “Insulting the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi sometimes, respecting his killer sometimes, and now the disdain for the sacrifices of Mangal Pandey, Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and lakhs of freedom fighters. Should I call this thinking madness or treason?

Kangana has received her Padma Shri Award, the fourth-highest civilian honour in the country two weeks ago.
