Madras High Court orders murder charges against cops involved in Tuticorin custodial deaths

Recently, the brutal death of father-son duo in Police custody enraged the whole country. After investigating the post-mortem report, the Madras High Court agreed to charge FIR against accused policemen on the basis of prima-facie evidence.

While examination, many injury marks were found on the bodies of victims that were enough for taking preliminary action against accused.
The post-mortem report of Jayaraj and Benix has been given to Madras High Court on Tuesday and case against accused policemen has been registered.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court also asked Tirunelveli Inspector General of Police to continue the probe of the case until CBI takes its charge. The High Court also gave three weeks time to accused to provide explanation against charge over them.

According to the report, three policemen had brutally beaten to both father and son on opening their shop over permitted time during the lockdown. Both have died by torture in police custody.

Following the case, five policemen including an inspector and two sub-inspectors have been suspended.
