Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai announced her wedding to partner Asser Malik on social media on Tuesday, and Internet searchers lost no time digging up old photos of the couple together. One picture, in particular, grabbed the internet’s attention – thanks to a surprise cameo from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
When Malala turned 24 in July this year, Asar congratulated the Nobel Peace Prize winner with a picture of them next to a life-sized cut-out of her favourite actor, Shah Rukh Khan. Malala is a self-proclaimed admirer of the Bollywood star – he once invited her to speak at Oxford University and later praised her performance in the 2018 film.
The picture shared by Asser Malik shows Malala dressed in a light blue salwar kameez for her 24th birthday. She was seen posing with Asser next to a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Shah Rukh Khan.
Sharing the picture, Asser wrote, “Happy Birthday to the most amazing @Malala @iamsrk had to make a necessary cameo of course.”
Although it was shared four months ago, the picture resurfaced on Twitter after Malala announced her marriage on Tuesday.
Malala had said, “I think Shah Rukh Khan has some kind of Midas touch.” In an interview in Times of India 2015. “Everything he does is absolutely right. I love all the movies that I have seen about him, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is an all-time favourite.“
On Tuesday, Malala shared photos of her husband’s marriage ceremony in Birmingham, UK. The 24-year-old said she and her new husband had celebrated at home with their families. Asser Malik, who hails from Lahore, is an entrepreneur and general manager of the High-Performance Center of the Pakistan Board.
