On Saturday the supreme court was moved by the Tamil Nadu government against the orders passed by Madras High court that demanded the closure of all the government-run outlets for liquor until the lockdown has been lifted.

An interim order was passed by the bench of justice Vineet Kothari and justice Pushpa
Satyanarayana after they heard a bunch of petitions for the closure of the liquor outlets since they are violating the guidelines laid against the coronavirus fight.it was noted about the people not following the protocol and social distancing was not even performed anywhere near these shops.

However online liquor delivery to the doorsteps of people is permitted but it was told by the HC that delivering liquor at each and every person’s doorsteps were not possible in the entire state. The liquor shops run under AIADMK were open except in containment zones and Chennai and a 23 lakh litre worth of 170 crores was sold for the people . the shops were open on May 7th for the period of 43 days.

The reopening of liquor shops was permitted on May 4 from 10 am to 5 pm and it was stated that extra staff will be deployed to manage the crowd while keeping an eye that no one violates the social distancing norms. but this decision was not accepted by HC and it was said that only one bottle will be provided for a day only if the payment is made in cash.
