The re-run of the old television show “Ramayan” on Doordarshan became the world’s most-watched show on April 16 with 77 million viewers, as per the post of DD India on its official Twitter handle on late Thursday night.
As per the TRP report, the re-run of Ramayan is weaving magic on the audience once again. It is the most-watched channel on TV.
According to data stated in the fourth edition of the BARC-Nielsen report on Thursday, average viewership for TV news saw a 219 per cent hike for the week between 4 April and 10 April as compared to average viewership of January this year.
According to the TRP charts, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan has become one of the most-watched television shows amidst the lockdown, with a record of 15.5 points -smashing all the past records. Ramayan is followed by Mahabharat and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 9pm9minutes TV address, scoring 4.7 and 1.9 points respectively. Shaktimaan with 1.4 points stands in the fourth position.
The BARC tweeted, “In the 4th edition of the Nielsen-BARC report, we saw high viewership in the premium panel, News and Movies dominated in week 14, Wrestlemania 36 and Ind-Pak classics stole the highest viewership in the sports genre, and kids and elders watched Ramayan and Mahabharat together.”
‘Ramayan’ is being re-airing on public demand since March 28. When it was broadcasted for the first time in 1987, the serial had smashed all records of viewership, and again the history is been repeated.
Ramayan has 78 episodes in total. The serial is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas.
The Ramayan was broadcasted from 25 January 1987 to 31 July 1988. The show used to be telecasted on every Sunday at 9:30 am. Arun Govil, Sunil Lahri and Deepika Chikhaliya played the role of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita respectively. Arun Trivedi played the role of Ravan in the show.
‘Ramayan’ became the most viewed serial in the world from 1987 to 1988. It was recorded in the Limca Book of Records as “the most-watched mythological serial in the world” till June 2003.
As per the recent survey, In the last one month, Ramayan has been the most searched show.
Aside from Ramayan, the other television shows which are re-airing are Mahabharat, Chanakya, Shaktimaan, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Alif Laila, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Circus, Byomkesh Bakshi, Shriman Shrimati, Buniyaad and Upanishad Ganga.
