Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is an upcoming 2023 drama film directed by Ashima Chibber and produced by Zee Studios and Emmay Entertainment. It stars Rani Mukerji, Anirban Bhattacharya, Neena Gupta and Jim Sarbh.
The film is based on the real story and struggle of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian immigrant mother, whose children were forcibly put into foster care by the Norwegian authorities. Such acts have challenged child protection services globally and accused them of tearing children and parents apart.
There were allegations made against the couple for ‘hand feeding’ which shows forcible feeding, ‘hitting their children’ and sleeping in the same bed as their children. This would seem normal in the Indian context but in Norway, it was anything but that!
What followed later was a long-year tussle for the custody of her children. Authorities claimed that she was mentally unfit for raising her kids and used it against her. This captured interest of both Indian and Norwegian media.
