UN’s Labor Organization Predicts Loss Of Over 195 Million Full Time Jobs In June Quarter Due To Covid-19 Outbreak

The Corona virus pandemic is taking a huge toll all over the world. Lockdown have been implemented in various countries, Businesses closed down and has affected the world globally and economically. Reports say that the most affected sectors are business services and administration, manufacturing, food and accommodation and retail and wholesale. These sectors make up about 36.6 percent of global employment.

Forecast had initially predicted that about 14 million jobs will be laid off but is currently predicting 195 million loss of jobs if the government also over the world don’t do something to curb the spread of the virus. Before the wide spread of the Corona virus pandemic there was unemployment of about 190 million person. California, Texas, Florida and New York all have a very large number of job loss. The pandemic has wiped out about 6.7% of working hours globally.

It March it was predicted that nearly 25 million jobs will be lost by the end of 2020. According to Johns Hopkins University there are more than 1,450,000 global cases and at least 83,568 people have died from the virus. BBC reports that four out of five people jobs have been hit. Europe and America has the most high risk workers. Workers lack social protection in countries like Brazil, Nigeria, and India. An agency of United Nations reports a 7% drop in global working hours. The pandemic is slowing pushing the global economy towards recession. 6.6 million people filed for unemployment in one week in the US
