WHO SAYS THAT ‘WUHAN’S MARKET HAD A ROLE IN ORIGIN OF CORONAVIRUS BUT MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED’

On Friday, the Geneva-based World Health Organization said the Wuhan market in China had a role to play on the Covid19 pandemic. The World Health Organization called for more research in the Wuhan market. The market has been shut down earlier in the year by the Chinese authorities. It was shut down in January as a means to stop the spread of the virus. Peter Ben Embarek said “The market played a role in the event, that’s clear. But what role we don’t know, whether it was the source or amplifying setting or just a coincidence that some cases were detected in and around that market”. He also stressed that markets globally that were involved in the selling of live animals have to maintain a good hygiene condition even after the pandemic and have to be better regulated, he added that the waste management had to be controlled, separating of live animals from fresh goods as well as the movement of people and goods.

He also said that “what is important, what would be of great help, is to get hold of the virus before it adapted to humans, before the version we have now. Because then we would better understand how it adapted to humans, how it evolved”. Concerning Mike Pompeo’s accusation of the virus being developed in a lab Ben had nothing to say about it. He also said that it was not clear if it was the live animals or the shoppers or the vendors that brought in the virus. He also talked about how Asia’s were market sell fish and live animals were in the open air. He added that China has more qualified researchers in terms of investigation and had all the experiences needed.
